Students who participate in the pOdcOsts project will have the opportunity to
1. Demonstrate their ability to create an audio presentation ( podcast) based on the research and discussions in the project.
thbe able to create a podCost presentation .
2. Their presentations will reveal their ability to

- recognize and discuss their values and style of living
-critically reflect and analyse data
- contribute and collaborate in online dialogue with peers

Teaching Process

In order to create their podcOst students should complete the the preparation stages of the activity Teenagers Cost of Living. The most relevant stages have been listed below.

1. Present the topic of A TEENAGER'S COST OF LIVING to the class as a whole. Ask the class general questions which will lead to the brainstorming.
Do they feel that they struggle to save?
Do they budget?
How do they earn their money?
Who do they think spends more, girls or boys?
Why?

2. Group Brainstorm
Organize small groups for discussions based on topics listed below. It is highly recommended to organize separate groups of boys and girls so that they can compare and discuss their results.

Groups can brainstorm on the following topics.

•what they spend their money on
•how much money they spend on average
•where they get their money from
•what influences their spending habits

3. Collecting the information
Once groups have completed their brainstorm, organize them by the topics disucssed.

Group 1 :•what they spend their money on
will organize the information based on separate data for boys and girls

Group 2: •how much money they spend on average will organize the information based on separate data for boys and girls

And so on..

4. Have each group of students create an online poll for internal and international participation in the topic. To set up a poll, Go to Class Discussions and create a new thread with a relevant title. Use the Poll feature. For international response to the poll, use the TIGed collaboration tools to invite registered TIGed teachers to participate with their students in your class' poll.

5. Presentations
After students have participated in the group polls have them collect their information and create podcOsts on issues related to the cost of living. To set up a podcOst go to Classroom Tools and go to Student Blog. Have students create a post with the title of their topic. Have them record their presentation and upload them in mp3 format to the student blog. Use the TIGed collaboration tools to invite registered TIGed teachers to listen to an commen on the podcOsts.

Ideas for podcOst : The podcOsts could be in the form of interviews, round table discussions , dialogues between friends, or parent and teen or perhaps a monologue.

Suggestions include the following topics.

•what they spend their money on
•how much money they spend on average ( ranges)
•where they get their money from (our ideas/plus other)
•what influences their spending habits
•some indication where they come from so that there can be comparison based country as well.
•Advice for saving/earning money.
•Importance of awareness of advertising and brand marketing

Teaching Notes

Having your students play Play Ayiti: The Cost of Life is very helpful as player must choose a primary goal for his/her family: achieve education, make money, stay healthy, or maintain happiness.
